MARLENE BUSKO

It was back in 1969 that Marlene wrote these words in our yearbook ...

The members of the Editorial Board hope that we have successfully captured the mood of our school in 68-69 as well as the spirit of our city. Montreal has inspired us to make this yearbook as interesting and exciting as possible. Poet A.M. Klein explains this influence of our environment when he writes

“You are a part of me . . . . . and you above the city, scintillating, Mount Royal are my spirit’s mother”,

This Highlander is dedicated to Montreal. We have used pictures which reflect a few of the many different aspects of our city as section dividers. Within the sections we strived for a balanced representation of the students and teachers involved in activities in M.C.H.S. this past year. Therefore, we felt it necessary to add a Homerooms Section in which each student is identified. We have remembered our graduates by including a two page summary of the memorable events of their last year here.

We aimed for a book that would be attractive, imaginative, and not too formal in tone. These qualities are best illustrated by our Sports Section, and our Candid Camera pages. However, we are also proud of our Arts and Letter Section which effectively displays some of the best talent our school has to offer in this field. In the Activities Section our main concern was to illustrate the faces of involved students.

Our endeavour to portray the atmosphere of our island home as well as that of M.C.H.S. this past year may be compared to the retrospective glance in which Conrad sess the poignancy of youth:

“Only a moment, a moment of strength, of romance, of glamor - of youth! A flick of sunshine upon a strange shore, the time to remember, the time to sigh and – goodbye! Night – Goodbye.”

This yearbook was produced for you, and we hope you enjoy it.
